Title: Investigation on Food Assistance Programs and Dietary Behavior among Texas Tech Students: A Case Study of Raider Red's Food Pantry
This study will help us to investigate the impact of Raider Red's food pantry usage on food security status and dietary behavior among Texas Tech students. Study will recruit all enrolled students, including graduates and undergraduates (men and women) above age 18 years old and who have used Raider Red's food pantry at least twice as an on-campus food assistance resource on Texas Tech campus, are eligible to participate in this study.
What would I do if I participated?
In this study, you will be asked to complete an online survey including questions about sociodemographic, Raider Red's food pantry usage perception and experience, food security, dietary intake, and nutrition behavior survey. The study survey link will be accessible by clicking on the survey link or scanning the QR code to access the survey link on study fliers. The survey should only take 30-35 minutes to complete.
Also, interested participants will be contacted for a follow-up interview to share their lived experiences about Raider Red's Food Pantry usage and how to optimally utilize the food pantry as an invaluable resource on the Texas Tech campus. The interview session will be scheduled using an approved online platform (Zoom using Texas Tech administrator login) for a duration of about 40-50 minutes for each student interview.
Can I quit if I become uncomfortable?
Yes, absolutely. Dr. Wilna Oldewage and Texas Tech University's Institutional Review Board have reviewed this research project and think you can participate comfortably. However, you can skip parts of the research you are not comfortable with and stop at any time. You will keep all the benefits of participating even if you stop. Participation in this study is entirely voluntary.
How long will participation take?
We are asking for 70- 85 minutes of your time which includes the follow-up interview participation.
How are you protecting privacy? Your name will not be linked to any material in reports, publications, or presentations. No one other than the researchers associated with this project will have access to the raw data. All related documentation will be stored in the researcher's locked office {and} on a password protected computer.
What will happen to my data?
Your {information} collected as part of the research, even if identifiers are removed, will not be used or distributed for future research studies.
What are the benefits and risks of participating in this research?
There is no direct benefit of this research for the participants. There is no significant potential risk associated with participating in this study.
Compensation: At the end of the study, participants interested in the amazon $10 gift card will have their emails enter a drawing to receive an Amazon $10 gift card. The drawing is voluntary, and you can provide an email address if you wish to be entered in the drawing.
Two hundred participants will receive a gift card with 0.2 odds of winning. Winners of the gift cards will be notified after the completion of study data collection, and they will be notified through their email addresses.
